Tottenham Hotspur are likely to face a major crisis in the transfer window this summer.

Following Christian Romero, the main defender, Rodrigo Bentancourt, the core of the midfield, and two South American players are receiving strong love calls from Atletico Madrid, the prestigious Spanish La Liga.

The Times, a leading British newspaper, reported on the 24th (Korea time) that "Atletico Madrid is considering simultaneously recruiting Christian Romero and Rodrigo Bentancourt from Tottenham. Both players have conditions for a big deal this summer in terms of contract conditions and transfer possibilities."

Romero is currently on the captain's team with Son Heung-min and James Maddison within Tottenham, and leads the team's core defense. Full recruitment from Atalanta on loan in 2021, he showed off his stable defense with 121 appearances at Tottenham alone.

However, although Romero's contract period is still two years away until summer 2027, negotiations with the club are sluggish.

In response, "The Times" explained, "Tottenham is seeking to renew the contract to protect Romero, but there is no clear progress yet."

Romero himself has recently publicly expressed interest in moving to La Liga, so most predict that his transfer is actually only a matter of time.

"To be honest, I want to play in La Liga," Romero said in a recent interview with Argentina's "TyC Sports," adding, "I want to challenge it because it's a league I haven't experienced yet. I'm going to discuss it with my agent after the season, and I'm leaving all possibilities open."

The remarks further stimulated the interest of La Liga clubs, and there was a lot of speculation that Atletico might have emerged against the background of actively pursuing his recruitment.

According to multiple media, Tottenham are expected to demand at least £60 million (about 114.9 billion won) for Romero's transfer, and Real Madrid is also reportedly putting Romero on the list to reinforce its central defense.

Bentancourt's situation is also alarming. Since moving from Juventus to Tottenham in January 2022, Bentancourt has consistently played a key role in the midfield.

So far, he has played 107 games for Tottenham, scoring nine goals and eight assists, and he has recovered quickly even after his injury and is competing again.

However, his contract runs until June 2026, with only one year left. If Bentancourt does not agree to re-sign with Tottenham, Tottenham will have their last chance to sell him for a fee this summer.

"Bentancourt has become the core of Tottenham's midfielder team, but the possibility of a transfer has risen rapidly due to the short period left until the end of the contract," said British soccer media Football Insider.

The media added, "Tottenham has hurriedly started negotiations to renew its contract to protect Bentancourt, but several European clubs, including Atletico, are watching the situation and are preparing to recruit in the event of a breakdown in negotiations."

Taking advantage of this opportunity, Atletico and other European clubs are showing interest in recruiting Bentancourt. 먹튀검증

Tottenham newsletter SpursWeb also said, "Atletico coach Diego Simeone has set the reinforcement of central midfielders as his top priority this summer and made Bentancourt his key target," adding, "If Tottenham fails to renew its contract with Bentancourt, Atletico expects to be able to bring him in with a relatively low transfer fee."
